What is and how to waterproof with ATKCOAT pure polyurea?

What is ATKCOAT pure polyurea and how is it applied?

Polyurea is a polymer formed from the reaction between two components: isocyanate and polyamine.

It is applied by means of high pressure and temperature spraying equipment, which allows the formation of a continuous, seamless and highly resistant membrane. Generally, the spraying equipment is installed on a truck, from where a hose is extended to the surface to be treated.

Curing time: speed and efficiency

One of the great benefits of ATKCOAT polyurea is its fast cure time.

In just 6 seconds, the components react and form a high-performance coating. Thanks to this speed, the waterproofing is completed in reduced times, optimizing the execution time of the work.

Substrate conditions: Can polyurea be applied in the Basque Country?

To ensure proper adhesion, the surface on which the polyurea is to be sprayed must be dry.

However, in areas with high humidity and rainfall, such as the Basque Country, this can be a challenge. To solve this problem, we have specific primers such as ATKWET, designed to properly prepare wet substrates and ensure efficient application.

Recommended thickness of ATKCOAT® polyurea membrane

According to the European Technical Evaluation Certificate (ETE 14/0397), the minimum recommended thickness for polyurea membrane is 1.4 mm. However, in our applications we work with higher thicknesses, reaching an average of 2 mm to guarantee an optimal and durable waterproofing.

Compatibility with different surfaces

ATKCOAT polyurea can be applied on a wide variety of substrates, such as:

  • Ceramic tile
  • Corrugated roofs
  • Uralite and fiber cement
  • Tile
  • Metal surfaces (zinc, sheet metal, metal roofing)
  • Stone and concrete

The key to a successful application lies in a proper preparation of the substrate, using the correct primer for each type of surface. For this reason, it is essential to have a company specialized in the application of polyurea.

Available finishes and passable options

ATKCOAT polyurea should be protected when exposed to weathering. For durability and UV resistance, it is recommended to apply a coat of ATKTOP in the desired color. If a walkable, slip-resistant finish is required, aggregates or chips can be added. anti-slip in a final layer of ATKPOL T.

If the waterproofing is to be covered with another material, it is sufficient to leave a rough finish, suitable for the direct installation of tiles, stone or other coverings.
